The UK Higher Education minister Baroness Jacqui Smith was on hand to welcome a visit by NMITE and a delegation of mining professionals from Kazakhstan this week in Parliament.
The Kazakh delegation has been based at NMITE in Hereford for the last three months, after the new university won an International competition to provide them with cutting-edge challenge-based technical education.
Also on hand was local MP and new NMITE Chair, Jesse Norman.
Commenting, Professor Graham Sparey-Taylor of NMITE said, “Winning this competition is not just a demonstration of NMITE’s growing international reputation for innovative technical education.
“It also extends our capability in advising mid-career professionals and in working on challenges in mining and other geotechnical areas.
“That is nothing but good for the development of the university and the support we can offer for upskilling technology professionals across Herefordshire, the wider region and the UK as a whole.”
