The Courtyard are offering an opportunity for emerging visual artists aged 16–25 with a link to Herefordshire to take part in the 2023 visual arts project, Cultivate@Courtyard.
The chosen artists will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and will then be mentored by professional artist Dermot Clarke. They will work towards producing an exhibition at The Courtyard and The Old Mayors Parlour Gallery in the Summer of 2023 with an opportunity to receive a £1000 grant. The selected artists can also receive up to £1000 for project materials.
“This is a wonderful project that encourages young artists to be brave and ambitious with their work.” Says Cultivate mentor, Dermot Clarke, “I’m so happy to be involved and look forward to mentoring them through this exciting process.”
As well as working as a tutor at Hereford College of Arts, Dermot is also a freelance fine artist and graphic designer, working both digitally and traditionally to commission, with specialist areas in illustration, graphics and fine art.
Artists wishing to be considered for this project are invited to submit a technically accomplished and resolved piece of artwork or craft for assessment, along with supporting evidence of exploration and experimentation, in the form of a sketchbook or drawings. The themes for submissions are: ‘Speak’, ‘Motion’, ‘Connect’, ‘Renewal’ and ‘Optical’.
Applications must be submitted by Friday 27 January 2023 and can be emailed to [email protected] or can be dropped off in person at The Courtyard. Artists wishing to drop work off must organise a date and time to do so by emailing [email protected].
