Worcestershire County Council has published its new Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) Strategy, setting out plans to expand access to charging facilities across the county.
The strategy follows a countywide engagement exercise where residents and businesses were invited to share their views on the future development and delivery of EV charging in the County. Feedback gathered has helped shape the Council’s approach to supporting the growing number of EV users in Worcestershire through the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund.
Councillor Karl Perks, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said, “With EV ownership expected to grow significantly over the next decade, our Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy sets out how we will support EV mobility in Worcestershire. In particular, it focuses on meeting the needs of residents who do not have access to off-street parking for charging their vehicles.
We are working hard to secure government funding to deliver this strategy and accelerate investment in EV charging infrastructure across the county.”
The strategy’s primary focus is to deliver EV charging solutions for local communities through the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which aims to support those without dedicated off-street parking at home.
EV ownership is steadily increasing in Worcestershire and is expected to rise rapidly from around 10% of all cars in 2025 to nearly 80% by 2040. The LEVI fund will help us to provide additional charging sockets throughout the County.”
