Building a Training Department at Standard Motor Transport

Five years ago, while trying to source training for our own staff, we noticed a lack of companies offering the quality of training we required for our operation. Sensing that other local companies needed high-quality workplace training, and with the space and facilities available, we were in a strong position to support. So “Standard Motor Transport Training” was created.

The aim was simple: provide courses that were practical, accessible and delivered to the highest standards. Our Training Manager Mike Jones brings years of experience, and under his guidance, we became fully accredited by the Association of Industrial Truck Trainers (AITT), meeting ABA standards and L117. This ensures that each course is nationally recognised and satisfies all health and safety requirements whilst providing customers with confidence in the quality of the training they receive.

We wanted courses to strike a good balance between practical and classroom-based learning and be flexible to suit a range of operational needs, so they are designed to either be delivered on-site with our customers or at our training centre in Redditch. Courses include manual handling, banksman and all MHE equipment types (Forklift, Counterbalance and Reach trucks to name a few).

What began as a response to a gap in the market has become an essential part of our service offering. With Mike’s expertise and the continued support of our team, Standard Motor Transport’s training department is set to keep growing and continue to raise workplace professionalism and safety standards across the region.
