In a recent visit to Geluveld, Zonnebeke in Belgium, Duncan Sutcliffe took part in the unveiling and re-dedication of the Memorial to the actions of The Worcestershire Regiment in the First World War and the exploits of the 2nd Battalion at the Battle of Gheluvelt, 31st October 1914.
On Friday 24th March, a group led by Councillor Dr Adrian Gregson, Mayor of Worcester travelled to Geluveld and laid a wreath at the Menin Gate Ceremony after the re-dedication of the Memorial. Duncan Sutcliffe, Managing Director of Sutcliffe & Co Insurance Brokers, who is also a Worcestershire Ambassador and The High Master of the Worshipful Company of Clothiers of Worcester, was part of the moving and poignant visit, which included brief commentary from Lt Col (Retd) Mark Jackson, on the Regiment’s role in the 1914-18 war.
Duncan explains, “It was a true honour to be invited to the rededication of the Memorial that commemorates the 34 men of the 2nd Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment killed at Ghelvelt. It is so important to remember.”
