The Courtyard is pleased to be hosting a free Street Jazz workshop via Facebook Live this April.
To celebrate International Dance Day on Thursday 29 April, professional dancer, teacher and choreographer Laura Gale will be leading a free, 45-minute Street Jazz Workshop live on The Courtyard’s Facebook page at 10am. This commercial style dance fuses Street, Hip-Hop and Commercial Jazz. Participants will be taught some moves and steps to form a short routine to current chart music.
Before the coronavirus pandemic hit and The Courtyard was forced to close its doors to the public, Laura Gale ran a series of classes in the building, including Contemporary dance, Street Jazz, Musical Theatre and LAMDA. Laura Gale hopes to restart her classes at The Courtyard from Monday 7 June 2021.
“What better way to celebrate International Dance Day than to Dance!” says Laura Gale, “Whatever your experience, whatever you consider your dance-skills to be….I can’t wait to join with you in celebrating and sharing a love of dance. Expect to have fun and be energised!”
In addition to the Laura Gale Dance classes, The Courtyard also offers a range of other creative workshops, many of which have been adapted to be delivered online until they can reconvene in person.
Chance To Dance, led by Lisa Fraser, is a low impact accessible dance class that gives participants the opportunity to get moving, develop skills, gain confidence and make friends. Each half term will focus on a different style technique whilst working towards a short routine and attendees can book for either a half or full term. The hour-long sessions will be delivered on Fridays at 10.15am and are being offered on a Pay-What-You-Can basis.
For those looking for something a little less physical, The Courtyard host Writing Room, a writing class for up-and-coming playwrights, and sight reading and vocal characterisation classes Reading Room and Reading Room Extra. Delivered for The Courtyard by Feral Productions, these classes allow playwrights and performers, new and experienced, the opportunity to develop and hone their skills.
The Courtyard’s Education Team have also modified their Youth Theatre sessions to be delivered online while the building is still closed. Although the classes will be hosted via Zoom, the aims remain the same; to provide an inclusive and accessible environment that inspires young people to learn, develop and create.
Those interested in joining Youth Theatre Online can contact The Courtyard’s Education Administrator at [email protected].
