£22m Worcestershire Parkway finally opens

Last Sunday finally saw the grand opening of the brand-new Worcestershire Parkway Rail Station on Sunday, the counties first new rail station in over 100 years.

The station, which is a key part of the County Council’s commitment to improve the counties infrastructure, will provide better rail connectivity which will allow for easier travel into and out of Worcestershire.

The new project cost £22m, the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership invested a total of £8.3m of Government’s Growth Deal funds into the development of Worcestershire Parkway Station.

Mark Stansfeld, Worcestershire LEP Chair, added: “I am pleased to see this station opening as it will continue to improve the physical connectivity of Worcestershire to the National grid and encourage new tourists and businesses to the county to see everything it has to offer.”

The station includes a 500-space car park, with reasonable priced parking charges and is easily accessible from the B4104. The station will also help to remove traffic from the county’s main roads and motorways as commuters will be able to leave their car and have access to direct services to London, Oxford and Cardiff.

The station will enable easy access to both the Great Western Railway (GWR) Worcester – London Paddington route and the CrossCounty Cardiff – Nottingham route; the latter being a new service to Worcester which does not stop at any other station in the county.

It is pleasing to see local government addressing key issues that businesses have identified as being a barrier to growth, The Chamber Business Manifesto outlines key issues that businesses identify and sets the policy and the support that the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce provide through lobbying with local and national government.
