Creative Communications Group hires new Head of Film

Senior video professional Carl Timms joins DRPG as the new head of film. With over 20 years’ experience in film and video, Carl is an award-winning director and producer with a background in both large scale corporate accounts and small, independent film.

Across his career Carl has made promotional films for the public sector, the travel industry, sports documentaries and charities. He was formerly head of production at the BBC/ACE funded digital arts commissioner The Space, where he worked behind the scenes on a number of high-profile arts performance captures and digital projects. Carl is also the organiser of the annual 2Weeks 2Make It Midlands competition and former board member of Screen Central, both of which promote grass roots filmmakers and the screen industry within the Midlands region. More recently in his spare time he is the founder of an independent film production company (where his latest short has been nominated for Best Local Short and Best Short at the Birmingham Film Festival).

He also has a wealth of experience in the digital sector and has a deep understanding of the ever-blurring lines between video and digital. Carl was a director of arts-specialist Made Media for 8 years moving from project manager to client services director, overseeing international digital projects for some of the world’s leading arts organisations.

Carl brings this diverse skillset to DRPG where he will now be heading up a team of 30, managing creative output, strategic direction, processes and technology.

Carl commented, “This is a dream opportunity to work with a company whose skills encompass the full communications sector. I also love the “anything’s possible” attitude, which is always something I’ve tried to bring to my own video projects. I look forward to leading this team and working with them to make terrific video content”

Ben Wallace, director of digital, states, “His huge range of experience in the digital and film sectors makes him the perfect choice to head up our ever-growing film and video department. We are excited to see what he brings to our team of experts”.

DRPG has seen a steady growth throughout 2019 so far, and as a result they are not only bringing on new team members and clients, but simultaneously expanding globally. The role of head of film was formerly filled by Dagmar Mackett who has moved on to become DRPG’s global development director, helping the company to achieve and expand on its global presence goals. “Leaving the team I’ve built and grown over a period of 10 ½ years, I wanted to be sure that it would be in good hands, led by someone with a genuine passion for film, a deep understanding of the industry and an attitude that will inspire and invigorate the team. I believe we’ve found all that in Carl.”
