The Prometheus Charity Golf Day 2019 raises £3,877 in aid of the Mercia Accident Rescue Service

Friday 26 July this year saw the annual return of the Prometheus Charity Golf Day, in aid of Mercia Accident Rescue Services (MARS).

During both the run up to the event and including the golf day itself, a considerable £3,877.95 was raised for the charity. MARS is a local charity made up of a team of specialist doctors and advanced medical practitioners, working across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to deliver enhanced immediate medical care to patients in need. The charity run organization acts as a support network alongside the West Midlands Ambulance Service. The cost of training and equipping each of these medical professionals costs in the region of £20,000, meaning Prometheus considers MARS to be a charity entirely deserving of any donations it receives, and is privileged to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.

The day itself, held at the local venue of The Herefordshire Golf Club in Wormsley, welcomed 19 teams made up of local businesses across Herefordshire who took part in an 18-hole round of golf, followed by dinner, prize presentations and a raffle. The businesses who partook in the annual Prometheus Charity Golf Day generously contributed in sponsoring the event and donating prizes for the raffle, and as a result, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who took part and contributed.

Unfortunately, on the morning of the 26th July, CEO of Prometheus Medical and MARS doctor, Dr Malcolm Russell, who was due to join the Prometheus team in playing, was called out to a road traffic accident involving multiple casualties as assigned doctor and MARS volunteer for the incident. All three casualties were subsequently airlifted to hospital, following Dr Russell being first on the scene to respond, after later being joined by 3 ambulances, a paramedic officer and 3 air ambulances. Examples such as this highlight the essential need to support such an organisation, which provides incredibly advanced and immediate critical care to those in need, based almost entirely off charitable donations.

Last week, Ami Owen from the Prometheus team presented a cheque, containing a total sum of money raised to Mark Worthing from MARS.

Mr Worthing said: “On behalf of the trustees and members of MARS, I take great pleasure in extending our heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in the Golf Fundraising Day. This annual event organized by Prometheus Medical is a regular and significant boost to this wonderful charity, and is very welcomed indeed. It is this kind of regular support, from generous local businesses and societies that keep us well stocked and effective. Thank you so much.”
