West Mercia Women’s Aid charity coffee morning

On Friday 6 September, West Mercia Women’s Aid will be having a Charity coffee morning at local business Jackson Family Funeral Directors. The charity coffee morning, which starts at 10.00am, aims to bring together the local community to support West Mercia Women’s Aid in a relaxed coffee morning, where cakes will be on sale and all proceeds raised will go to the charity.

West Mercia Women’s Aid, whose local office is based in Worcester, carry out vital work across the region to ensure the well-being of women who are victims of domestic abuse. The Charity coffee morning not only aims to raise much needed funds to support their services but will also increase awareness of domestic abuse and the lifesaving support West Mercia Women’s Aid can provide.

Lee Russell, Funeral Director at Jackson’s Worcester branch, explains: “The shocking fact is that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives. Hidden within a community, women can be subjected to long term suffering from within the family unit.

“Our coffee morning is just a small way we are supporting West Mercia Women’s Aid. We hope the local community will come along and get behind the coffee morning and perhaps buy a piece of cake or two!”

West Mercia Women’s Aid employs 49 staff and is supported by a team of volunteers, running a 24-hour helpline, 3 refuges and a well-developed community-based support service in Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Their services include the provision of group programmes for survivors – including a group for male victims in Worcestershire – and specific support for the children of families who have been affected by domestic abuse, as well as Independent Domestic Violence Advisors working with victims who are assessed as ‘high risk’ in all four West Mercia authorities.
