Over 2,000 visitors attended the latest edition of the renowned St Michael’s Hospice Plant Fair.
The annual three-day event is set to raise well over £20,000 for the charity, which provides palliative and end-of-life care to families across Herefordshire and its borders.
The fundraising boost comes hot on the heels of RUN Hereford, held the previous weekend, which saw over £55,000 collected for St Michael’s.
The majority of the Hospice’s funding is raised by the community, with events such as RUN Hereford and the Plant Fair a key source of income.
“Our Plant Fair is always a very special event, and this year was no different,” said Gaynor Warren, Events and Community Fundraiser at St Michael’s.
“To see dozens queuing to get in on the opening day shows just how much people look forward to the Fair.
“I would like to thank every single person who attended, and extend my thanks to our wider community who donated hundreds of plants to sell. We also received hundreds of punnets of strawberries, donated by S&A Produce and EC Drummond, for which we’re extremely grateful.”
Gaynor also paid tribute to the Fair’s traders, and the many volunteers who helped the event run smoothly across the three days.
“Big thanks must also go to event sponsors Lyonshall Nurseries, and TPG Disable Aids for sponsoring the golf buggy, enabling visitors to travel safely from the car park to the Fair and back again,” she added.
Among the stalls which featured at the Fair was a display of seed bombs created by some of the Hospice’s day patients, raising awareness of the horticultural therapy offering at St Michael’s.
