Most personality tests get dismissed as online quizzes with vague results. But when Adam Hanslow-Smith, founder of Dandelion Video Production, sat down with DISC Practitioner Dawn Hardman for the latest episode of the What Do You Do? podcast, he didn’t just interview her – he took the assessment himself, with his results revealed on air.
“I had no idea what the result was going to be, so my reaction is real,” Adam explains. “It’s made me see how I’m perceived very differently.”
DISC – which stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness – is an in-depth personality assessment used by individuals and teams to improve self-awareness and communication. Unlike a quick online quiz, a DISC assessment is a 20-page profile, interpreted with the help of a licensed practitioner like Dawn.
“Ultimately, everyone wants the same result,” Dawn explains. “They just get it in a different way, and it’s just having that understanding.”
For businesses and teams, that understanding can make a significant difference – helping to identify the root causes of team conflict, and highlighting which communication skills come naturally and which ones require more conscious effort.
Dawn Hardman is an HR Business Partner at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, and a licensed DISC Practitioner. Hear the complete conversation at Dandelion’s website.
