Wye Valley Brewery were chosen as hosts to inspire the alumni, highlighting the brewery’s achievements as a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) with strong community values and sustainability objectives. Attendees had the chance to hear from industry leaders and experts, participate in a brewery tour, and engage in networking sessions while enjoying locally sourced food and beverages. Keynote speakers included: Vernon Amor, Managing Director Wye Valley Brewery; Kay Emblen-Perry, Principal Lecturer & WBS Sustainability Lead; Martin Cray from the Wye and Usk Foundation; and Abbie Gadd, Head of Sales & Marketing, Wye Valley Brewery.
Vernon Amor, Managing Director of Wye Valley Brewery, expressed: “We have a responsibility to future generations to review our sustainability efforts. If we can inspire the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs to follow suit, we’re proud to play our part.”
The event offered the unique opportunity to explore how Wye Valley Brewery has integrated sustainability into its operations, from energy-efficient brewing processes to supporting local wildlife conservation through its brewery pond and wildlife reserve, alongside charity partnerships with both the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and Wye & Usk Foundation.
Laura Swain, Business Development Officer at the University of Worcester, said “We launched the first cohort of Herefordshire & Worcestershire Help to Grow: Management in Autumn 2023 and have seen exceptional progress from 37 local business leaders who have participated in the course so far. This event gave an insight into a successful local business, in this case Wye Valley Brewery, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and community care.”
“As a Business School, we are committed to promoting sustainable practices and supporting business leaders in adopting ethical and responsible growth strategies. We are proud of our recent recognition under the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) banner and look forward to continuing our collaboration with local SMEs.”
