Over the past seven weeks, Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Care Home have been filled with laughter, creativity, and heartwarming moments as the children from Lugwardine Primary Academy embarked on a journey of friendship and connection with the residents. Engaging in a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, gardening, and reading, these visits have not only enriched the lives of the elderly residents but have also fostered invaluable learning experiences for the children.
Under the guidance of Lifestyle Coordinator Nicky and with the support of dedicated teachers, the children immersed themselves in each visit, eagerly participating in activities while forming meaningful bonds with the residents. These interactions transcended generational divides, allowing both children and residents to learn from one another, share stories, and build lasting connections.
On Friday, 24th May, as the children bid farewell to their friends at Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford, they were met with a delightful surprise arranged by both homes and their grateful residents: an ice cream van. The joyous faces of the children mirrored the happiness felt by all as they indulged in delicious treats and reflected on the cherished memories made over the past seven weeks.
Speaking about the impact of the intergenerational visits, Lifestyle Coordinator Nicky shared, “These past seven weeks have been incredibly special for both the residents and the children. Through shared experiences and genuine interactions, we’ve witnessed the transformative power of connection in both generations. The smiles and laughter shared during our visits have truly enriched our residents, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful initiative beyond the school holidays.”
The success of the visits has inspired both Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Care Home and Lugwardine Primary Academy to explore further opportunities for ongoing collaboration, with plans to continue the visits and nurture the bonds forged between the children and the residents.
