Excitement builds as St Michael’s Hospice Plant Fair nears

One of the biggest Plant Fairs in Herefordshire returns this Spring with hundreds set to visit.

St Michael’s Hospice says it is excited to welcome visitors from across the county and beyond to the latest instalment of its annual Plant Fair, to be held at its Bartestree home on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May.

The event is free to enter and features a wide range of stalls from herbaceous perennials, annuals and bedding plants, to shrubs and indoor plants – all grown and donated by the local community. Professional traders will also be present, and for the first time there will be an Artisan Market.

Last year’s Plant Fair was the most successful to date, raising more than £14,000.

“We’re really starting to get excited about our Plant Fair, and we can’t wait to welcome supporters to St Michael’s,” said Event Organiser, Gaynor Warren.

“For two days, the Hospice’s beautiful lower garden is filled with a huge variety of items to tempt the novice gardener, professional horticulturist and everyone in between.

“The Plant Fair couldn’t take place without the help of those supporters who grow plants for sale at the Fair; the many volunteers who help out across the two days, and the continued support of our sponsors Lyonshall Nurseries and Garden Centre. To all of them, thank you.”

Alongside the stalls containing items grown by the community, traders will be present selling a wide variety of plants, plus handmade garden sculptures, refurbished hand tools, garden furniture, willow products, recycled glassware and vintage zinc garden items. There will also be a Plant Fair raffle, with prizes donated by the Fair’s traders. Visitors will be able to purchase a wide range of food and drink while wandering around the gardens, with the barbecue, so popular last year, returning.

Admission to the Fair is free, and there is parking available at St Michael’s.
Those thinking of attending are encouraged to register in advance on the St Michael’s Hospice website.

“We hope visitors will enjoy the Plant Fair,” Gaynor added. “It’s their support through events like this which play a huge part in funding the care we provide free of charge at St Michael’s Hospice, and in the community.”
