We recently took freelancing to the extreme with an associate managing a project whilst sailing in the Arctic Circle.
Working with freelance associates rather than employees is what enables us to manage peaks in work and tap into specialist talent as and when needed. It not only works for Owner Ruby Edwards but also for the freelancers who are travelling or exploring other opportunities and need to earn whilst they’re away.
However, the project in question was up against a tight deadline and the associate managing the graphic design of 4 roller banners, needed for an event the following week, was sailing through the gateway to the Arctic Circle at the time. With the wonder of WhatsApp, we.transfer and 5G, the team were able to work together and make deadline.
Freelancer, Alice Thompson, admits: “Being an online-based freelance designer means I am able to work from anywhere in the world (as long as I have signal!). It’s meant I’ve been able to continue with my sailing passion, travelling to some incredible places, whilst still freelance designing. Working remotely whilst running my own design business gives me total flexibility to work wherever I want. I love it!”
You Do Better freelancers are people who often work in larger Agencies and want to earn a little more as a side hustle. They add to their pockets and skills in addition to their main job. Work is offered, accepted (or rejected if their current workload or lifestyle doesn’t suit) created, approved and submitted.
Work to date includes graphic and web design, regular content for blogs as well as press releases, awards, social media and digital campaign management.
Owner, Ruby Edwards, agrees: “I’m lucky to work with some awesome people who pull out all the stops to make sure that projects are completed on time. On this particular occasion the timeframe was very tight and the team were in an extreme, once-in-a-lifetime situation but still managed to do what needed to be done.”
The pay-as-you-go business model allows start-ups, SMEs and larger organisations to tap into the talent as and when they need, to manage their own peaks and troughs in marketing.
