The importance of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ)

Recent events have contributed to an increased awareness of the importance of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) and it is now almost universally accepted by many academics and scientific experts, amongst many others, that the quality of indoor air requires improvement if we are to create ‘safer and healthier indoor spaces’.

The government has repeatedly advised that by opening doors and windows and following its guidelines this will help to provide adequate protection from exposure to harmful contaminants, quite clearly, while this does help the situation it is a long way from the final solution as statistics and science has consistently proven.

Research suggests that we have an average lifespan of 79 years, it also suggests that almost 69 years of that is spent indoors. I would conclude therefore that IAQ is of critical importance and especially so given today’s conditions. Organisations seriously need to consider enhancing these broad government mandates and adopt solid strategies that will be considerably more effective, offering better protection and creating ‘safer’ indoor spaces.

An interesting comparative is that people in the UK would never be expected to drink untreated water or to consume food that has not met rigorous hygiene standards and yet we will breathe, every second of every day, vast quantities of untreated air. Is that a healthy option?

Given the choice would you not prefer to breathe clean indoor air ?
