Danny Pardoe, Community Engagement Lead, The Point Business Centre at Kidderminster College met Ruby Edwards, local PR Agency Owner, at a recent Round Table event hosted at HW Chamber HQ

At the event, the duo formulated a plan and started discussions regarding a Kidderminster College alumni. Watch this space!

For now, the Chamber members teamed up to discuss Ruby’s career journey which coincidentally started at the College and had led to a successful career in Public Relations.

Ruby attended Kidderminster College in 1991 – 1993 to study a BTEC National Diploma in the Design of Audio Visual Communication.

Things have changed since then and whilst carpet making is no longer on the agenda, Kidderminster College has a huge array of courses to suit eclectic tastes.

Ruby says: “Back in the day it wasn’t unusual to share the canteen with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, whose daughter was also studying there at the time, and to chat with students who were learning how to make carpets. Whilst this is a legacy course now, there are still aspects of the learnings that come into my day-to-day work at the Agency.”

Ruby went on to work for the NHS, travel and study Sport at University before beginning a career in the utilities sector. Since then, she’s raised two children, founded a charity and runs a successful marketing agency that specialises in delivering pay-as-you-go PR to local SMEs.

Danny Pardoe, Community Engagement Lead, The Point Business Centre at Kidderminster College, says: “It’s always great to hear about the different pathways people take after leaving us and how their careers are reinforced by their time at Kidderminster College. I’ve noted Ruby’s career path with great interest and look forward to working with her in the future.”

Ruby continues: “I do wish I’d listened more and learnt everything on offer, including graphic design, but I am grateful for the lessons and opportunities that the course has given me. Even 20 years on, I am leaning even more into the things I learnt on the course – especially photography, which I love – and how they help me run my business now.”
