An award-winning vineyard near Herefordshire has joined forces with a wine subscription service to bring one of its wines to club members in box form to help boost sustainability (April 2022).
Foxbury Fields Vineyard’s Bacchus wine is now part of The Bib Wine Co’s wine in a box service, which aims to bring wines to people in a more environmentally friendly way.
Heather Williamson, joint Chairman of Wyevale Nurseries and who set-up Foxbury Fields Vineyard, which is based at the foot of the Malvern Hills and produces small batch Bacchus and Ortega wines from grapes grown in their own unique micro-climate, said:
“We are thrilled to have leant our Bacchus wine to The Bib Wine Co as part of its wine in a box subscription service.
“It is a fantastic idea, and we are honoured that the team enjoyed our wine so much that they wanted it to be a part of what they do.
“Our Bacchus wine is a pale lime green aromatic dry white wine. It offers complex aromas of elderflower, layered with kiwi, grass and a herbal overlay. Well balanced with length on the palate, this is a classic vintage English Bacchus at 11.5% VOL and is available as part of the subscription service at https://www.bibwine.co.uk/.”
The Bib Wine Co was started in 2016 when four siblings decided to stop talking about the lack of good wine available by the box and instead do something about it.
They decided to put together a range of wines with Master of Wine, Justin Howard-Sneyd, that could come in box form, making them better for the environment, causing less waste and saving people money.
Oliver Lea, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The BIB Wine Company, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to be working with Foxbury Fields on this new Bacchus. The quality of grapes and wine produced is astonishing and has already proved to be a hit with our club members.”
BIB customers can sign up to receive expertly selected wines in box form every one, two or three weeks or months. Foxbury Fields’ Bacchus wine is now available to BIB wine club members.
The Bacchus grape grown at the vineyard was created in 1933 by viticulturalist Peter Morio by crossing Silvaner x Riesling with Muller-Thurgau varieties to create a grape that produces a fine white wine.
Originating in Germany, Bacchus has increasingly been grown in the United Kingdom. The climate being colder means the grapes tend to have increased levels of acidity compared to their German counterparts, giving a new flavour take on a classic German grape by keeping it from becoming too intense or sugary.
Foxbury Fields, which is a South West Vineyards Association Silver medal winner, is now able to sell direct to consumers online via its website www.foxburyfields.co.uk and purchasers can collect their orders from the vineyard by arrangement only.
Its wines are also available for collection, by arrangement only, from Wyevale Nurseries in Herefordshire, which is one of the UK’s leading commercial nurseries and celebrates its 91st anniversary this year. Wyevale Nurseries is family-owned and is currently run by the third generation of Williamsons, Heather and Simeon, who are joint Chairmen of the company.
