Black-Tie Dinner and Silent Auction Raises Incredible £60,485 for Local Children and Families

Fundraisers were on fine form at a black-tie dinner and silent auction which raised a staggering £60,485 for local children and families.

The event at Teme Valley was held in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice and its care for life limited and life threatened children and their families

Organised by Mr Michael Timmis, Patron of the charity’s Founder’s Club, ‘La Teme de la Crème’ aimed to raise £30,000 for Acorns, but generous donors more than doubled that amount.

Mr Timmis said: “The care that is given by our local Acorns hospice in Worcester is outstanding. We thought we’d be able to raise a reasonable sum but never dreamed the final total would be anything like the amount raised.

“Thanks to the enthusiastic support of everyone who joined us and the desire to help out this wonderful charity, we have far exceeded our fundraising target.”

Mr Timmis, joined by event supporters Caspar Tiarks and Nick Cant, was welcomed to Acorns for the Three Counties where he presented a cheque for the five-figure sum to Acorns Chief Executive Toby Porter and Area Fundraiser Mel Hall.

Mel Hall said: “We’re extremely grateful to Mr Timmis and the fantastic Teme Valley community for raising this incredible amount towards our children’s hospice care.

“Acorns is a real lifeline for the families we support. Every penny raised will make such a difference to local children across Worcester and beyond. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened children across Worcestershire and the West Midlands, and support for their families.

In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 700 children and almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.

It cost Acorns £27,000 per day to provide its lifeline care and support, the bulk of which comes from fundraising and donations.
