Light up a Life with St Michael’s Hospice

People across Herefordshire and beyond are being invited to remember their loved ones with St Michael’s Hospice this festive period.

The Bartestree-based Hospice has launched its Light up a Life celebrations, which culminates in a service at Hereford Cathedral the week before Christmas.

Light up a Life is an invitation to everyone in the community to shine a light in memory of those no longer with us at this poignant time of year. There is also the return of the Hospice’s popular Light up a Life online dedication page where anyone can shine a light in memory of a loved one.

As part of this, a Wall of Remembrance will be placed outside Hereford Cathedral featuring the names of the people St Michael’s supporters are remembering; a similar installation last year featured hundreds of names. They will also feature in a printed Book of Remembrance which can be viewed at the Light up a Life services.

“Light up a Life is always very special, with events filled with love and moments to remember,” said Jill Groves, the Hospice’s Lead Chaplain.

“Lighting a candle to commemorate a loved one is a very special thing to do, particularly at Christmas time.

“Last year, because of the pandemic, we were unable to gather at Hereford Cathedral, so it’s particularly poignant that we can return there this time.”

There are two special Light up a Life events this year. The first takes place at St Michael’s Hospice in Bartestree on Wednesday 1st December (5pm) before the Cathedral service on Sunday 19th December (5.30pm).

The Cathedral service will be screened live through the Hospice’s website thanks to Hospice supporters CJP Broadcast Service Solutions Ltd.
