National Star pop-up workshop

Disability charity National Star is staging a pop-up workshop at its day college in Hereford later this month to encourage Herefordshire businesses looking to address their current staffing problems to give workers with disabilities the chance to shine as part of their team.

Because of the charity’s track record for working with employers of all shapes and sizes they are working with the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) to help demonstrate how easy it is for businesses to employ people with disabilities. National Star has strong links with a number of employers including FTSE 100 wealth management company St James’ Place Wealth Management and family business Hewer Facilities Management. Representatives from these companies, along with others, will be sharing their honest experiences of offering extended work placements and employing people with disabilities at the workshop in Hereford.

The pop-up workshop will run from 4pm – 6pm on Thursday 28 October at National Star in Hereford, 1, Ledbury Road, Hereford. Light refreshments will be provided. Teresa Carroll, National Head of Inclusion at ETF explains: “As the country recovers from the effects of both Brexit and the Covid pandemic, learners with SEND are a huge untapped resource to employers and businesses. Eighty one per cent of non-disabled people are employed whilst only 52% of people with disabilities are employed, hiring people with SEND is not just the right thing to do, but makes good business sense too.”
