Assistant Ecologists, Lucy Moorhouse and Aimmie Woodman, of Focus Environmental Consultants have recently been awarded their Class 1 and Class 2 Bat Licences by Natural England, respectively, expanding their capabilities and the capabilities of the team at Focus.
Lucy, who obtained her Class 1 Bat Licence, had to log a minimum of 100 hours of bat survey experience, as well as attend training courses to gain a wealth of knowledge on bats.
Aimmie, who now has a Class 2 Bat Licence, had to not only prove a wealth of knowledge on bats, but also prove vast experience in handling bats as well.
As bats are a European protected species, it is illegal to disturb them or their roosts in anyway, unless you are licenced to do so by Natural England.
Both licences mean that Lucy and Aimmie are qualified to carry out certain surveys for bats without supervision and can take the lead on numerous projects.
Of her achievement, Lucy Moorhouse said, ‘Since getting my licence I have been the lead on multiple projects and I’m really enjoying gaining lots of different experiences!’
