Countdown to Jan 1 as UK prepared to leave transition and embrace alternatives if no progress is made

Unless there is a fundamental change in approach by the EU, the UK will leave the transition period on January 1 with no trade deal and embrace the alternative, Boris Johnson has said following the conclusion of the European Council.

EU post-council communique said it was the UK’s responsibility to make the necessary moves to make an agreement possible.

The UK will leave the customs union January 1 and if no movement is made between the two parties then Britain will begin planning for a no deal exit.
