Morrison’s Academy approached Selcraft UK many years ago regarding the supply of cap badges for their schools’ combined cadet force (CCF) and it’s always been a pleasure to receive their repeat business.
Originally, we were supplied with their current use item along with instructions to amend some of the design details and improve the overall quality and appearance. Our team are always delighted to be offered such opportunities to (re) design and produce, for any item, from medals to badges and beyond.
Carl and the team at Selcraft describe this coat of arms as “armorial” in style and, without doubt, these present some design challenges due to the necessary and appropriate reduction in scale to suit purpose as a cap badge. Crests like these have armorial bearings usually including a coat of arms on a shield, helmet, and crest, together with any accompanying devices, such as supporters, badges, heraldic banners, and mottoes. Therefore it’s essential to create a faithful interpretation of the crest.
The Morrison’s Academy CCF cap badge is of a traditional style of manufacture associated with the Armed and Uniformed Forces, both here in the UK and overseas. One aspect of this style of manufacture is producing the badge with both negative and positive dies/moulds which facilitates the depth of metal relief required without the consequences of additional weight.
Selcraft can offer numerous options for the finished appearance of any cap badge allied to a choice of reverse fixings.
Carl Huxley, Director at Selcraft UK, said: “We offer varying levels of artwork support, generally to suit our clients’ needs, from the humble black & white outline, 2 dimensional colour artwork and, ultimately, virtual reality imagery of the finished item. This is an essential stage between Selcraft and its clients as it provides an assurance of how the item design details, including dimensions, will appear once made.”
“Within our official quotations – which are clearly written with both technical specifications and cost options – is our inclusive offer upon receipt of order to provide artwork of the item we intend to produce.”
Selcraft are recognised as the market leaders in their field of expertise and the preferred choice by the wide-ranging and ever increasing list of clients within the UK and worldwide as Insignia, Medallists and Badgemakers.
