Chamber Member Selcraft UK has enjoyed the privilege of being a supplier to the Royal Oman Police (ROP) since 2006. The team, headed up by MD Carl Huxley from Malvern, Worcestershire, have undertaken numerous special commissions and reproductions of the ROP’s uniform accoutrements and medals.
In 2008 Selcraft UK were tasked with amending a specific range of medals, unique to the Royal Oman Police, both in full-size and miniature using the latest version of their crest, which are still produced by Selcraft in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. When reproducing complicated crests it is important to consider how it will reduce on the physical full-size and miniature medals at 32mm and 18mm respectively. Selcraft’s die-sinkers (mould makers) ensure the finest intricacies of crests are reproduced both faithfully and in faultless detail. Whilst today computerised engraving machines are often employed for die-sinking, on crests as fine as this, Selcraft’s skilled team also use time-served and exceptionally skilled bench crafts within our workshops which are necessary to ensure the final product withstands the closest scrutiny.
Apart from the full-size medal shown, which is the Royal Oman Police Bravery medal, Selcraft proposed a unique paperweight that could be used as a presentation gift for important visitors or delegations as a desirable and practical keepsake. The paperweight integrates the same high quality stamping as on the medal for total authenticity with a decorative and contrasting antique copper effect to enhance the fine detailing of the crest. The base of the paperweight is solid turned brass with a recess, into which the medal is located and secured, with the complete item being held in a bespoke presentation case covered in blue leatherette, matching the force’s colour. The same crest is silver foil blocked onto the lid of the case to complete the personalisation.
