Nigel Huddleston MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Visits Local Business Blue Print Direct Mail (BP)

On Friday 19th April Nigel visited BP to discuss the implications of changes proposed by Ofcom to the Universal Service Obligation (USO).

BP reached out to Mr Huddleston to raise concerns regarding these proposals and the effect it would have on the business and BP’s clients. Most concerning was to reduce the number of days that Royal Mail would be obliged to deliver post from 6 down to 3 just days.

MD of BP, Anthony Drew, suggested that this would severely reduce the opportunity BP’s clients would have to market their products/services to potential clients and, as a consequence, would result in dramatically reducing BP’s activity.

Anthony accepts that changes to the USO are necessary in order to make post sustainable, however, it is important that all views are considered, not just Royal Mail’s.

One change that would help Royal Mail, but have little effect on BP’s clients, would be to reduce postal deliveries from 6 to 5 days.
