Local voluntary groups and charitable organisations in Wyre Forest can now apply for grants of between £200 and £500 from Wyre Forest District Council to help towards the costs of projects that benefit local people.
Wyre Forest District Council’s Community Grant Scheme has boosted good causes supporting people of all walks of life and ages across the district, from contributing towards a new Wyre Forest Nightstop support group for women and girls, buying new equipment for the Junior Pickup Artists, to the creation of a new sensory and nostalgia garden at Wolverley and Cookley.
Grants have paid for a new bowling set for Reach Community Services in Bewdley, contributed towards a new dance floor for the Limelight performing arts charity, supported the Three Kings Christmas Parade in Stourport, and helped pay for new gateway signs to Rock village.
The scheme gives grants of between £200 and £500 and local charitable organisations, clubs and societies, companies with a community interest parish and town councils are being urged to apply in the next round of applications. The deadline for applications is (Friday 5 March 2021).
The grants are available to improve services and facilities and support activities for the local community. The council will also look to support schemes which encourage local action to improve quality of life. Youth facilities, environmental improvements, workshops for people with dementia and play equipment are just a few of the sorts of projects which could receive funding.
Cllr Helen Dyke, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said:
“The scheme is a great way of supporting our thriving and confident communities who are doing such great work to improve the lives of local residents. We invite applications for ongoing or one-off projects which really make a difference to local people.
“During the pandemic many organisations may have struggled to raise vital funds in their usual way, so these grants could provide local groups a much-needed lifeline.”
