Understanding EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR)

What will I learn?
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces new obligations for businesses placing packaging on the EU market, with requirements taking effect from 12 August 2026. For UK manufacturers selling into the EU, and UK suppliers supporting customers who do, this means understanding which Articles apply to specific packaging, what a compliant Technical Documentation file and Declaration of Conformity must contain, and how to stay audit-ready. This course helps businesses work out what applies to them, using the EU’s own My Trade Assistant tool, and leave with the knowledge to build compliant documentation rather than relying on unverified templates.

Specifically, we cover:
• Identify which PPWR Articles (5–12) apply to a given piece of packaging
• Use My Trade Assistant to confirm packaging requirements for a specific commodity code and EU destination market
• Identify what a Technical Documentation file must contain under Annex VII
• State what a Declaration of Conformity must contain under Annex VIII
• Apply an audit-readiness checklist, including retention periods and keeping your DoC continuously updated
• Understand what’s needed whether you’re preparing your own DoC or supporting a customer’s
