Bromsgrove-based speaker coach and professional speaker Dave James delivered his second TEDx talk at TEDxWorcester in January 2026, using the world-renowned platform to make the case for human communication in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
The talk, titled The Power of Public Speaking, opens with a provocative observation about AI: that for all its remarkable capabilities, it cannot look someone in the eye, feel the energy in a room, or make a genuine human connection.
As Dave put it from the stage: “AI can’t hug… yet.”
The talk explores three ideas at its core: authenticity, connection and opportunity, and builds to a central message that has become the foundation of Dave’s coaching work: “Developing your speaking skills may not change the world. But it will change your world.”
Dave runs Speaking Without Freaking™, his flagship coaching programme, working with individuals and organisations across the region to help people communicate with confidence and clarity.
This is his second TEDx appearance. His first talk, on mindfulness and meditation for men, was selected as a TED Editor’s Pick and has been viewed over 22,000 times.
He has also been shortlisted for the TEDx of the Year category at the Speaker Awards 2026 with winners announced in London on 3rd July.
“We are living in a moment where AI is changing everything,” said Dave. “But the one thing it cannot replicate is genuine human connection. That is exactly why developing your voice, your story and your ability to communicate has never mattered more.”
