While High Streets Struggle, This Business Is Thriving

As household names disappear from high streets, one Worcester business is quietly thriving. The difference? While the location of their work has changed, their values haven’t.

Cleaning Technique, a commercial cleaning company celebrating its 40th anniversary, has seen its best growth in recent years.

“The business landscape has completely changed in 40 years,” says Sean, who runs the family firm with his wife Izzy. “When we started, we were cleaning nightclubs in Worcester city centre. Now, most of our work is in business parks and industrial estates. That’s where the economy has moved.”

Cleaning Technique made a deliberate choice: focus on local SME’s across Worcestershire. They’ve carved out a niche providing a personal service to businesses that value reliability and relationships.

The business itself is a true family affair that mirrors the economic journey of many successful Midlands firms. Started by Sean’s mother Rosemary in 1985 from her dining room with one telephone line, it grew steadily. Today, it employs over 80 staff.

“Our staff aren’t just cleaners,” Sean emphasises. “Without them, there is no business. They’re part of our family.”

The staff retention numbers prove it’s not just talk. Some employees have stayed for nearly two decades; exceptional for the sector.

For companies willing to follow their customers rather than cling to how things used to be, there’s growth to be found all across Worcestershire if you know where to look.
