Maggs is seeking a new Trustee to take the lead on financial matters for the Board as we embark on our next phase of impact, sustainability and strategic growth. We’re looking for someone therefore with excellent accountancy and financial management skills to join us as the Lead Trustee on Finance (Treasurer).
This would be a great role for someone looking to start their non-exec portfolio, or equally, we would really welcome applications from experienced non-execs.
As chair of the Finance Committee, the Treasurer leads the execution of the financial elements of Maggs five-year strategy working in partnership with the rest of Board of Trustees, stakeholders and our Finance Manager and CEO.
Main Duties of the Role
The role of Treasurer is a key one for the Board and particularly as we embark on our next phase of impact, sustainability and strategic growth. On behalf of the Board, the Treasurer:
1. Guides and advises the board of Trustees in the approval and interpretation of budgets,
accounts and financial statements, within the relevant Charity policy frameworks.
2. Convenes and chairs Maggs Finance Committee and supports Maggs Finance Officer in presentation of financial reports to the Board.
3. Advises the Trustees on the financial implications of Maggs strategic plans and key
assumptions, and Maggs financial duties and responsibilities more generally.
4. Ensures that Maggs applies its financial resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.
5. Ensures that Maggs financial resources meet its present and foreseeable future needs and that there are appropriate reserves and investment policies in place.
6. With Maggs Chair regularly reviews and presents for approval Maggs Reserves Policy.
7. Ensures that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
8. Ensures the organisation’s compliance with financial legislation and good practice.
9. Ensures that any accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and relevant statutory bodies.
10. Ensures that proper records are kept.
11. Leads on the appointment and liaison with auditor.
12. Ensures that the accounts are properly audited for external scrutiny and recommendations of the auditors are implemented.
13. Presents the accounts at the Annual General Meeting.
14. Offers advice and guidance on Maggs Fundraising strategy.
