At Kidderminster College, we are committed to helping vocational students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in their chosen industries. Work experience is a key part of this, providing valuable opportunities for students to apply their learning in real workplace settings while developing professional behaviours and employability skills.
Work experience helps students gain insight into the world of work, build confidence, improve communication skills, and make informed decisions about their future careers. At the same time, employers benefit from welcoming enthusiastic young people into their organisations, gaining fresh perspectives while supporting the development of the future workforce.
A recent success story is Phoebe, who studied Level 2 Business and Accountancy and completed a work experience placement with Community Housing.
“I think work experience is something every student should do. It gave me a real insight into working life and helped me decide if this was the career path I wanted to follow. After starting on a Level 2 Business and Accountancy course and spending 2-3 months on work experience with Community Housing, I was proud to secure a Business Administration apprenticeship. It was a great opportunity that helped me take my first step into my career.”
Georgia Smith, Community Housing Talent Acquisition Advisor, said:
“Work experience plays a vital role in developing future talent, giving individuals meaningful insight into the world of work while helping organisations like ours connect with and inspire the next generation. Through our Future Foundations programme, we are proud to have seen several placements progress into career opportunities, and Phoebe’s journey from work experience student to apprentice is a great example of what can be achieved.
Our programme is all about helping young people lay the foundations for their future, opening doors to opportunities they may have never considered.”
