GOOD NEWS STORY Redditch participant signed up to our Shaw Trust Pioneer Programme as needed support to search and apply for jobs.
On first meeting with their Pioneer Employment Advisor the participant attended with his mum who was quite negative towards her son’s ability to work, due to his neurodiversity.
The participant was very open about his autism and ADHD and felt concerned about his capabilities and how an employer would view him.
His Employment Advisor helped him to create a CV and worked with him to build his confidence and encourage him to be independent. Her 1-1 support enabled him to rewrite his self-view and to believe in himself and to try.
Within a month, with his Employment Advisors guidance they applied for a part time role in hospitality to compliment his college course.
His application resulted in an interview, and he was supported and prepped prior to the interview to provide confidence and assist him in feeling capable. He had a successful interview at
Miller & Carter and secured a part time role.
