Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs)
Led by designated Employer Representative Bodies (ERBs), LSIPs articulate local employers’ skills needs and the priority changes required in the local area to help ensure post-16 technical education and training provision is more responsive and flexible in meeting local labour market needs.
Minister for Skills, Baroness Jacqui Smith says:

I’m delighted that the second wave of LSIPs is currently underway and I encourage businesses to engage with Lauren Ashford to articulate their skills needs and work with the local skills providers, including colleges and local universities, to develop solutions to address them.”

What Is the Purpose of the Project?
This project aims to improve communication and collaboration between employers, educators, and training providers, ensuring business needs are effectively addressed and new ways of working can be explored.
What are the priorities for the Worcestershire LSIP over 2026-2029?
- Health & Social Care – building a strong pipeline of skilled workers to meet growing demand.
- Construction – developing the workforce needed for housing, infrastructure and low-carbon construction.
- Manufacturing & Engineering – strengthening technical and engineering skills to support business growth and innovation.
- Digital & Employability Skills – equipping people with the workplace and digital skills needed to succeed.
- Business Resilience – supporting leadership, management, workforce planning and Net Zero readiness.

What is the Marches LSIP?
The Marches LSIP covers Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin, connecting employers with training providers. Stage 1 gathered business insights on skills needs; Stage 2 uses this to shape effective training solutions.
