A graduate surveyor at a leading property consultancy laced up his trainers for his first long-distance race in over a year to stand in for a colleague forced to withdraw from the Worcester City Run.
Charlie Shakespeare, who joined Fisher German’s Worcester office in September 2025, completed the 10km race in 42 minutes 59 seconds after Jason Clines, Partner in Valuations, withdrew with a torn meniscus.
Jason had signed up to run for Acorns Children’s Hospice, the Worcester office’s designated charity, so Charlie took his place and has raised close to £300, well above the charity’s suggested minimum of £150 per runner.
Charlie has previously completed the Füssen Marathon in 2024 and 2025, raising £2,300 for The Brain Tumour Charity in his first.
Charlie said: “I hadn’t run a 10K race before, but I thought I’d give it a go when Jason couldn’t run. It was harder than I expected and the pace was quick, but it was a brilliant event. I had my Acorns vest on, so loads of people cheered me on.
“I was aiming for under 45 minutes, so I was quite pleased. Colleagues, family and friends all chipped in, and it was great to see everyone get behind it at such short notice.”
Acorns Children’s Hospice provides care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across the West Midlands, and is close to reaching its target of around £10,000 for a new outdoor play area.
