A unique harp recital inspired by Worcestershire’s rich musical heritage will bring the sounds of centuries past to The Hive this month.
Fiona Hosford, who recently relocated to the region and has already held a recital at Worcester Cathedral, will bring her performance Ancient Airs & Ancient Spaces to the city’s shared university and public library from 7-8pm on Wednesday 18 November.
“For the recital, I’ll be bringing in Edward Elgar, and Thomas Tomkins, both incredibly influential musicians from Worcestershire’s history,” she said. “I’ll also play some William Byrd and Hildegard Von Bingen, a 12th century nun whose music has been rediscovered only in the last 50 years.”
Fiona, who achieved Grade 8 Harp by the time she was just 15 years old, has performed all over the world, and has performed a version of this performance to sold out audiences in the past.
“The recital really is open to everyone,” she said. “Anybody who hasn’t experienced a live harp recital can come and see how I play, using the foot pedals and the different coloured strings, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity for people who already love this kind of classical music to come and really indulge their love of the harp.”
Fiona said she was particularly excited to perform in such a unique surrounding.
“The Hive, architecturally, is very eye catching. I love the old roman archaeology on display under the modern stairs, and that mix of old and new is such a beautiful way to see how different this library really is,” she said.
“As soon as I walked in, I thought it would be a wonderful place to play,” Fiona added.
Tickets to the recital are free but must be booked in advance by following this link.
