One of Worcestershire’s leading housing associations has been recognised by a scheme that aims to clean up and green up local areas.

Fortis Living has scooped a host of accolades at the annual RHS In Your Neighbourhood awards, which took place on Thursday 27 September in Birmingham.
There are five levels of achievement :
·        Level One is awarded to ‘establishing’ projects;
·        Level Two is awarded to ‘improving’ projects;
·        Level Three is awarded to ‘developing’ projects;
·        Level Four is awarded to ‘thriving’ projects;
·        Level Five is awarded to ‘outstanding’ projects.
The results were as follows :
Outstanding – Level Five was awarded to a retirement living scheme at Meadow Court in Worcester; Mr Beestan’s Community Garden in Droitwich; a retirement living scheme at Merrick House in Worcester and sheltered housing scheme Lullowfield House in Droitwich.  This was the second year in a row that Mr Beestan’s garden and Lullowfield House have reached Level Five;

Developing – Level Three was awarded to Pickersleigh Community Garden in Malver, Worcester’s Brookthorpe Close and Chelmsford Court, and Malvern based Storer Court – up from Level Two last year; sheltered housing scheme St Michael’s in Ledbury and Thomas Morris House in Malvern.
Improving – Level Two was awarded to Worcester’s Himbleton House, up from Level One on the previous year.
Paul Edwards, Community Officer at Fortis Living said : “Yet again, we are delighted with the fabulous accomplishments that our gardening volunteers have achieved this year.  The success of these environmental projects bring a great deal of pride and participation to their localities and we would like to say well done to all those involved!”
In Your Neighbourhood – or IYN – is a grass roots community gardening campaign which is part of Britain in Bloom, supporting community groups in cleaning up and greening up their immediate local environment.  The benefits include cleaner, greener and safer surroundings, a growing sense of community pride, increased rates of local recycling and environmental awareness as well as a reduction in anti-social behaviour with the regeneration of run down areas.
More than 1600 groups already take part throughout the UK; it’s free to join and each group receives an annual visit from an IYN assessor who provides feedback on how further improvements can be made.
Fortis Living is part of Platform Housing Group which provides more than 45,000 homes from Herefordshire in the West to the Lincolnshire coast in the East, and from the Derbyshire Dales in the North to the Cotswolds in the South.
