Worcester-based Wickens Engineering took it’s newly launched product, Batt-Rack, to the NEC Birmingham on 16th and 17th September, showing vehicle recycling firms, waste handlers and yard managers around the country a safer way to store EV batteries, battery powered machinery, tools and waste.
Lithium-ion batteries can catch fire if damaged, and those fires are notoriously difficult to control and put out, often causing catastrophic damage. Wickens Engineering has designed and built Batt-Rack at their Worcester factory to give firms handling batteries a purpose-built way to store them more safely and compactly, with built-in cooling and fire protection rather than the traditional large shipping containers many sites currently use.
Batt-Rack attracted a steady interest at the exhibition, and the Wickens team came away with many enquiries to follow up from businesses across the UK and Europe.
Lois Taylor, Marketing Manager at Wickens Engineering, said: “It’s brilliant to see a product designed and built here in Worcester get this kind of reception on a national stage. It showed us just how many businesses up and down the country are dealing with a battery storage problem, and how much appetite there is a for a proper solution”.
