We are delighted to announce that Ian Stirzaker, SME Solicitors’ former Senior Partner, has won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Worcestershire Law Society Awards 2026. The award recognises more than 35 years of legal experience, business leadership and service to SME Solicitors and Worcestershire’s legal community.
After initially training as a teacher, Ian qualified as a solicitor in 1989 and became his firm’s youngest-ever partner at 28. He specialised in family law while also undertaking criminal and duty solicitor work. In 2001, he became the first solicitor advocate in Worcestershire after obtaining higher rights of audience. He joined March and Edwards in 1993, adding child protection work to his practice before becoming a partner.
As the legal profession evolved, Ian prepared the firm for major regulatory change. In 2005, he became its first Managing Partner, combining the role with a full caseload.
Ian later trained as a collaborative lawyer and family mediator. His practical, empathetic and constructive approach shaped both his leadership and his work with clients navigating divorce, separation, financial and children matters.
In 2011, Ian led March and Edwards’ merger with John Stallard & Co. He continued to lead SME Solicitors with vision and integrity until stepping down as Senior Partner in April 2026. After 33 years with the firm, he remains a key member of the partnership and is now focused on developing its next generation.
