Web designer Helen Davies on why your website matters more than ever in the age of AI and social media

Helen Davies of Citrus Web features in the latest episode of Dandelion Video Production’s What Do You Do? podcast, tackling one of the most common misconceptions in modern marketing: that social media has made websites redundant.

“Your website is your digital shopfront,” says Helen. “It’s the only place online where you have complete control over how things look and what you say.”

Helen explains that whilst a lot of focus is put onto how websites look, the most important element is the strategy behind it. A homepage needs to make it immediately clear who you are, what you do, and why someone should choose you. “You’ve only got a short amount of time to capture that person’s attention,” she says, “and it’s all about keeping them on the page and guiding them through.”

A key insight from Helen’s is about values. By ensuring your values run through your website, you naturally attract like-minded clients and filter out those who aren’t the right fit – without saying a word about it directly.

On the rise of AI search, Helen is practical: GEO doesn’t replace SEO, it relies on it. “As long as you’re creating good quality content that genuinely helps your user and answers their questions, people will find you.”
