Students from Worcestershire colleges celebrated at annual awards ceremony

Students from two Worcestershire colleges have celebrated their achievements from the last 12 months in an annual awards ceremony.

Staff, family members, guardians and students from Pershore College and Evesham New College came together to reflect on their successes from the past year.

The colleges are both part of WCG and it marked the ninth year the college group had organised its annual WCG Student Awards ceremony.

The Worcestershire event was held at Pershore College and saw 17 awards presented to students, including 15 subject awards and two coveted Student of the Year prizes.

Evesham New College’s awards were presented to students on a wide range of courses, including construction, creative arts and media, engineering, English, maths, beauty and motor vehicle.

Meanwhile Pershore College recognised students studying on animal welfare, English, health and social care, horticulture, maths, sport, re-engagement and supported learning courses.

Hope Andrews, from Bromsgrove, who has completed a course in animal welfare was named Student of the Year for Pershore College.

Evesham New College’s Student of the Year was revealed to be creative arts and media student Alexander Weaver from Elmley Castle.

Award-winning event host and BBC broadcaster Dave Sharpe was master of ceremonies on the evening and announced the award winners.

Mark Bonham, Assistant Principal at WCG and Evesham New College director, addressed guests at the ceremony and highlighted a range of experiences and initiatives carried out by students at both colleges over the last year.

He said: “It was a fantastic evening and the chance to celebrate our students and all of the amazing achievements they have made throughout the academic year.

“Although academic success is important, it is not all about grades, and we want each of our students to achieve the best outcome they can during their time with us.

“This year’s ceremony was a celebration of success at every level, and it was great to be able to recognise this in front of students, friends and family.

“We would like to thank all of the staff at Pershore College and Evesham New College for supporting students and our other stakeholders that have played their part in enabling WCG to deliver such an extensive range of qualifications.

“I’m extremely privileged to be able to see all the hard work and dedication that takes place at our two Worcestershire colleges throughout the year. The evening was the perfect way to celebrate that work and the incredible achievements of our students.”
