UK economy set for reopening as lockdown soon to be lifted

“The government have this week released their plans of a return to a revised tiered system post December 2, when England comes out of its second national lockdown, giving businesses around a week of preparation.

“To avoid confusion the government should be relaying clear and easy to understand messaging on what exactly can and can’t be done in each tier.

“All non-essential shops, hairdressers and gyms will reopen regardless of the tier they are placed under however pubs, bars and restaurants must wait until Thursday to see if they will be able to operate fully, provide a reduced service or close all together.

“On one hand this is great news for hairdressers, gyms and other non-essential businesses who will be allowed to operate regardless of the tier they are in, making up for crucial lost time and opening for a much-needed cash boost over the Christmas period. The downside is that doubt still exists within the hospitality sector, with some feeling left in the dark over the uncertainty their businesses are faced with heading into the new year.

“Government should consider which areas are placed under higher restrictions carefully. The data and evidence must support this decision and areas where hospitality businesses are placed under the highest restrictions, specific geographical support should be considered and hopefully released ahead of Thursdays decision of which parts of the country will be placed in each tier.

“I am positive that all businesses across the two counties will do their bit in order to keep the region safe when it is time to reopen. The Chamber are also here to support all businesses affected, regardless of size or sector, with support and guidance to help assist businesses through the winter months and the new year where hopefully even more positive news will be on the horizon.

“All businesses are encouraged to keep up to date with the Chamber’s Coronavirus Business Support hub to view the latest government announcements, including details of financial support through available funding and grants, access to online training courses and webinars for employees, and sign up to receive weekly resources for businesses.”
