In accordance with the Approved Code of Practice to the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employers are “strongly recommended” to consider the need for emergency first aid training for appointed persons within their organisation.
This introductory level course is suitable for most low-risk employers in meeting their legal obligations for minimum first aid provision in the workplace. It is also suitable for employers with a higher risk who wish to provide appointed persons to support their First Aiders.
EFAW course contains six contact hours.
Use of continuous assessment is used to evaluate candidates.
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

• Care of the Unconscious Person

• A certificate for each delegates on completion of the course

Who should attend this course?
As a minimum, a low-risk workplace such as a small office should have a first-aid box and a person appointed to take charge of first-aid arrangements, such as calling the emergency services if necessary. Employers must provide information about first-aid arrangements to their employees.
Workplaces where there are more significant health and safety risks are more likely to need a trained first-aider. A first-aid needs assessment will help employers decide what first aid arrangements are appropriate for their workplace.
