Home / News & Opportunities

Date: 12/10/2017

Thursfields Solicitors’ soaring progress is reflected in the latest edition of “industry bible”, the Legal 500, just published.

The Midlands law firm achieved 27 lawyer recommendations in the 2017 edition – up from seven last year.

Thursfields has a strong tradition of developing its own talent and this is reflected in the Legal 500 recognition of Thursfields’ Tim Edwards (corporate), Lauren Hartigan-Pritchard (insolvency), Hannah Nicholls (family) and John McLean (commercial property) who were selected as being among the region’s leading “next generation lawyers”.
Having launched a Charities and Not for Profit Sector offering just last year, the team which boasts five recommended expert lawyers in the guide and is led by Jenny Smith, was delighted to make its debut in Tier 2 for the West Midlands.

The guide noted a “courteous and knowledgeable” team that “quietly goes about its business, letting their work do the talking while giving clients the confidence they need”.

Favourable commentary on Thursfields’ corporate and employment teams was also given. The corporate team is led by Gareth Burge who is described as “very commercially astute and doesn’t hesitate to grasp and solve technical issues promptly and efficiently”.

According to the guide, Thursfields “has a fantastic reputation for delivering commercial, honest and technical relevant advice”.

Stuart Price from the Birmingham office is also noted as someone who has particular expertise in assisting investors and start-up businesses with seed investment schemes in the film and technology arenas.

Insolvency and corporate recovery expert, senior associate Lauren Hartigan-Pritchard, who won Birmingham Young Professionals Awards 2017 – Legal Category, is rated as “experienced beyond her years, intellectually savvy and popular with clients”.

Ranked in Tier 2, the family law team is highly praised and described as “one of the best legal practices in the area of family law” for the region.

Shane Miller, who attracts praise for her “combination of good legal knowledge and good sense”, leads the team which has been boosted by the recruitment of Laura Williams, Hannah Nicholls and Kelly Pougher.

In the personal injury (claimant) category, senior associate Bernadette Mackie is acclaimed for her work representing an individual who was injured in an explosion at his workplace, and a case in which the claimant sustained a severe brain injury following an assault.

Thursfields’ managing director Nick O’Hara said: “This is an outstanding result for the firm and reflects our growing presence in the Midlands as an expanding law practice with a commitment to providing clients with expert legal advice in our key sectors.

“We are particularly proud of those who gained honourable mentions and believe this year’s Legal 500 provides a barometer reading of our rising presence in the region.
