Fifty walkers from the Worcestershire Ambassadors have this week smashed their £50,000 fundraising target by walking 50 kilometres on 8 September towards the St Richard’s Hospice Build 2020 campaign.

The ‘Amazing Adventurers’ team of 50 completed the 31 mile course as part of a 359 strong field walking the Thames Path Challenge from Egham in Surrey to Henley on Thames.   To date, the total raised is in excess of £57,000 including Giftaid.
The Ambassadors’ team included Worcester Mayor Jabbar Riaz, Phil Dutton, Chair of the Worcestershire Ambassadors, Tricia Cavell, Fundraising Director of St Richard’s Hospice with other members of the Worcestershire Ambassadors and their friends and family.
The project was driven by the Worcestershire Ambassadors’ board member Philip Fowler: “What a day this was!  As a group, we were committed to not only raising as much as possible but to walking every step in loving memory of Ambassadors’ founding member and former Vice Chair Derek Fradgley who passed away in July 2017.  The route was stunning along the Thames and we were lucky to have good weather which assisted our challenge.  Thanks to everyone who has donated and supported our training and efforts on the day itself.”
Team member Jabbar Riaz, Mayor of Worcester adds: “Most of our group had undertaken various levels of training in advance of the walk, but on the day itself, legs were still aching and feet were very sore with blisters.  This was undoubtedly a tough challenge, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say what a wonderful experience it was!  We are still buzzing from the achievement and the delight of raising so much for our amazing St Richard’s Hospice.”
The Ambassadors’ team completed the walk in times ranging from 8 hours to 12 hours.
Those wishing to donate can still do so by sending a cheque payable to St Richard’s Hospice to Tracey Hopkins 232 Holly Hedges, Malvern Road, St Johns, Worcester or via Just Giving by clicking on the attached link.
