Date: 21/09/2018

Every year, since 2012, Polish readers have their own holiday – National Reading Day. Organised by the President of Poland, which quickly started to grow into the biggest event in Poland.

The main goal is to promote reading and show to the broad audience the beauty of Polish literature. For each year, before the action starts, a national voting takes place to decide which particular book to be read. In almost every city, the special events are held in parks, libraries, museums, theatres, schools and many other places.
This year's National Reading was held in the 100th anniversary of Poland's independence and took place on Saturday, 8th September 2018.T
he Worcester Polish Association organized for this years chosen book “Przedwiośnie” to be read at the Hive in Worcester city centre. Residents of Worcester were invited to join to discover polish literature and bring many different cultures and communities together to celebrate this Polish tradition!

Organizer Tomasz Wisniewski said - “It was a historic moment, and I was so pleased to see so many people who arrived. We’ve also had British friends who attended to the event, they’ve been very welcome. English people can get to know our culture and traditions to help integrate with us. Thanks to this, we can minimize tensions in society and many stressful situations due to misunderstanding.”
Next year in May the WPA will organise (in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in London and Worcester City Council) the first Worcester Polish Heritage Day. They’re planning to hold a day on the high street to have international artists perform in Worcester, bringing tourists to the city and entertainment for the local community.
