TEAM FORTIS RAISE FUNDS FOR PARKINSON’S UK

Date: 03/08/2018

A team of dragon boaters from Worcestershire’s largest social landlord have raised almost £700 for a charity which supports 1 in 350 people in the UK.

The 40 strong team from Fortis Living raised a total of £698.26 for Parkinson’s UK earlier this summer.

The money was raised when the team took to the water as part of Worcester’s Dragon Boat Race Regatta.

The event, which took place on Sunday 1 July, has been held every year for more than 25 years on the River Severn in Worcester.  One of the world’s fastest growing water sports, the annual event is one of the city’s most popular summer highlights.

The decision to raise money for Parkinson’s UK came after a Fortis employee – and dragon boat racer - Andrew Warner, was diagnosed with the condition in April this year.

Sarah Wakeman, Regional Fundraiser, South Midlands from Parkinson’s UK said : “We are so grateful to the team at Fortis and everyone who has donated.  We totally rely on the generosity of the public and support like this is vital to Parkinson’s UK to help us find that much needed cure and support people with the condition.”

Fortis employees taking part in the race were divided into two teams, aptly named ‘Dragon Wagon’ and ‘Boaty McDragon Face.’

Andrew Warner concluded : “Taking part in the dragon boat race earlier this month was such fabulous fun!  What made it even more special is that we raised money for a charity that is very close to my heart.  Having been diagnosed with the disease earlier this year, the support it offers to people like me is invaluable.  Thanks to all who made this happen and for all the donations!”
