A CENTRE FOR LEARNING, HERITAGE AND ARTS FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY

Home / News & Opportunities / Member News

Date: 16/10/2017

The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded Worcester Cathedral initial support for a £1.2m grant to conserve and bring into use, for the first time, the 12th century Undercroft of College Hall.

Also included in the project is conservation of the 13th century over-life size stone carving of ‘Christ in Majesty’ in College Hall.

The centre will provide an innovative and versatile forum for hosting a range of creative outreach opportunities designed to expose a broader cross section of the public to the unique opportunities the Cathedral offers.

Over the next 12 months, the Cathedral will progress its consultations with the community and review access to ensure that it is available to a wide audience. It also needs to raise £500,000 before it can apply for the stage two grant of £1m. This means that every donation made to this project is trebled in value by the HLF.
