Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries to the Chamber Business Awards 2018. Here are some of our top tips to consider when submitting your entries.

The awards aim to recognise firms across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and beyond, celebrating the achievements of all business sectors and sizes. Your application form is the perfect time to shine, highlighting the very best of your business.

The judges will read through a number of entries, so to ensure that your application stands out above the rest, make sure you provide us with all the information necessary.

Whether this is your first time applying for an award or your tenth, there is an art to creating a winning award submission. The Chamber has put together a “Top 10 Tips” for success to support you when completing your entry.

1. Read our Case Studies - Over the years, we have received fantastic feedback from our Members about how applying for the Chamber Business Awards has impacted their firms. From raising staff morale, to brilliant PR opportunities, as well as the chance to celebrate at a luxurious black tie awards ceremony, discover how the awards have influenced businesses in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

2. Do your Research – To help you make the right decision for your business, the Chamber’s website has a page full of information for you to explore. From Entry FAQs to photographs of previous awards ceremonies, make sure to investigate all the tabs available to give you an insight to how entering the awards can benefit your business.

3. Select the Category – The Chamber is delighted to announce that we have three BRAND NEW categories available for 2018. The introduction of Best Use of Social Media, Micro Business of the Year and the Health & Wellbeing in the Workplace Award, will further celebrate the success and diversity of businesses in the two counties and beyond. The full list of categories is available on the Chamber’s website here

4. Start it Early – It’s important to give yourself enough time to complete the application, allowing you to tailor your answers to each question to maximise your score. Make sure that you read the application form and the terms and conditions carefully, and consider what the judges are trying to find out about your business. Last minute rushes may cause you to make mistakes and reduce your chances of writing a winning entry.

5. Shout About your Success – Don’t be afraid to boast about your business, and the achievements that you are proud of! The judges will have a large number of entries to read, so being proud of your achievements will help your application to stand out from the crowd. Your successes will shine through in your entry and draw attention to your business, and the Chamber wants to help celebrate your achievements!

6. Use Examples – To support your application, it would be great to include facts and figures in your entry, supplying a more accurate representation of your achievements. Using customer testimonials or financial information will help to back up any claims made in your application.

7. Remember your USP – Your business is unique, and has a message that is personal to you. It is useful to remember this when completing your application. Your USP will provide crucial background information, demonstrate your success and place it within context.

8. Be Straight Forward and Stick to the Point – We recognise that it’s difficult to try and fit everything you want to talk about in your application, so our best advice is to remember the question you are answering and provide an answer to that first. It will help the judges to understand the information you are giving to them – remember that the judges might not be familiar with the industry of your business!

9. Don’t Be Put Off – We have created a range of categories that will work with all businesses from many different sectors and sizes. Whether it’s your first application, or you are a previous finalist, the Chamber Business Awards are a great way to generate publicity and raise the profile of your business – FREE of charge.

10. We Are Here to Help – If you have any questions that aren’t answered in our FAQs, or whether you just want to speak to somebody about the process, the Chamber team are here to help. Call us on 01905 673 600 or email
